Title: I need gay people in my life.

Blog Entry: I am a 25 year old animation student in the UK. I am currently working on a project that I fully intend to make into an animated series. The subject matter will include findings from research on female and homosexual oppression in the media. (as well as many other things) I want to create a web series that brims full of homosexual and straight characters, each with a different flavour to them. I am sick to death of watching TV shows in which the straight characters are well thought out in terms of narrative and persona, characters that you know so well - that you can guess what they have for breakfast. only to have the token gay guy make his appearence, say his line in a feminine pitch. (just so the straight male audience knows which one is, the gay one) Then disappear - until a female character needs a "mans" perspective on her new shoes. It's getting to the point for me where I am getting embarresed to be associated with the industry. I kinda dont want apart of it until it changes. So Im putting my money where my mouth is and Im going to attempt to help in the struggle to increase the number of female and homosexual characters in modern day media productions. Characters that actually provide reason to be there apart from their choices in lifestyle What I am looking for is people that will be honest. Theres plenty of things I can analyse in media that can be helpful. I can break down imagery associated with Homosexualty and female strength into its components like it was a twig. I can tell you why the Village People chose to assume costumes of Policemen, Builders, Native Americans etc. And I will report my findings in my blog. What I need to know is about desire, about pain, what gay people love about gay culture, what gay people hate about it also and what they would like to see different. I want to know why a man has the deep urge to mount another of his elk and procceed to make love to him....and the reason why I dont know this is because I am straight. Dont get me wrong - I know the feelings associated with sex, I know the feeling of arousal and what gets people in the mood, I know about the laws of friction. But I know nothing about what motivates you at a sub-concious level. Without a deeper understanding of the people I am creating this for.....its a failure. So if any of you are interesting in sharing your experiences (and it doesnt have to be of a sexual nature) im interested in everything you wish to teach me. Thank you for reading. Mr. Wood
