Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Lourdes Gurriel extended his unique hitting streak on Sunday, but injured his left leg and ankle inside a win within the White Sox.

Gurriel singled home a run in Toronto’s five-run rally MLB 18 Stubs for sale inside eighth inning, but stumbled awkwardly in the belated slide work for balance second base while attempting to advance. Gurriel was tagged out within the play to separate the inning, even so collapsed in a very heap within the infield, holding his left leg.

He walked off the area, mostly under his personal power, and was removed in the game.

The Blue Jays said following the game that Gurriel was suffered a left knee contusion and left ankle sprain, understanding that X-rays showed no fracture as part of his knee or ankle. Gurriel should have an MRI exam on both his knee and ankle on Monday in Oakland.

There isn't a good time for the potential disabled list stint, except for Gurriel this seems incredibly inopportune. The rookie second baseman was 3-for-5 on Sunday, giving him 25 hits in their last 50 at-bats.

Gurriel comes with an 11-game hitting streak every game from the streak has featured at the very least two hits. It’s the longest such streak since Hall of Famer Tony Perez had an 11-game streak with the Big Red Machine in 1973. Dating returning to 1908, the one two longer multi-hit streaks were by Rogers Hornsby (13 games in 1923) and Billy Herman (12 games in 1936).

Gurriel, the younger brother of MLB The Show 18 Stubs Astros infielder Yuli Gurriel, signed a seven-year, $22 million with Toronto from Cuba in November 2016. Lourdes Gurriel made his major league debut in April, and also the 24-year-old is hitting .322/.340/.540.
